- Which format should I choose?
- WebP gives the smallest files at equivalent quality and is supported by every current browser. JPG is the safest choice for maximum compatibility with older software. PNG is lossless and the only one of the three that supports transparency alongside WebP.
- What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?
- JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with white. Convert to PNG or WebP if you need to keep transparency.
- Is conversion lossless?
- Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP re-encodes the image with lossy compression at the quality level you select.
